1 January 2022 was the deadline for Rentals to meet the legislation requirements.
1 January 2027 is the deadline for homeowners to upgrade their property to meet new smoke alarm legislation.
What will happen if I don’t upgrade my house to meet new smoke alarm legislation?
If you do not upgrade your home to meet new smoke alarm legislation by the designated date the consequences could be, in the event of a fire your insurance may not cover your claim. You could also be issued with a fine for not complying with legislation requirements.
How much will it cost?
The cost will vary depending on house style, age and what smoke alarms are already located in the property etc.
What sort of smoke alarms are required in my home?
It is important to research the brand quality of alarms that you would like in you home. All alarms are required to meet Australian Standards and must be Photoelectric.
